Service group: Managed IT

Remote IT support that fixes problems where your people are

Most IT issues can be resolved without anyone driving to your office. Our technicians connect securely, with permission, to the computers and cloud systems your staff use, whether they work at head office, from home or in another province.

What remote IT support covers

Remote support is a delivery method: a technician resolves the problem from where they are, by connecting to the affected computer, phone or cloud service rather than visiting in person. For the issues small and mid-sized businesses face most often, such as Outlook profiles, OneDrive sync conflicts, printer drivers, VPN failures, slow computers and Microsoft 365 permissions, remote work is faster because there is no travel time between the request and the fix.

It is related to, but not the same as, our help desk and on-site support. The help desk is how requests are received, prioritized and tracked. Remote support is how most of those tickets are resolved. On-site support is for the smaller share of work that needs hands on equipment. This page explains how remote sessions work, what they can and cannot fix, and how we keep remote access safe.

Problems remote support solves

  • Waiting for a technician to show up

A ten-minute software fix turns into half a day lost because someone has to travel to the office or the user has to bring the laptop in.

  • Staff spread across locations

Employees working from home, on job sites or in other provinces cannot get the same help as people at head office.

  • Unsafe remote access tools

Free screen-sharing apps installed years ago remain on computers with no control over who can connect, which is a common route for scams.

  • Problems that are hard to describe

Users struggle to explain error messages over the phone, so troubleshooting stalls until someone can see the screen.

Remote support capabilities

  • Attended remote sessions

The technician joins the user’s screen with their permission, so both can see the problem and the fix together.

  • Background maintenance on managed devices

For devices under management, approved maintenance such as software installs or cleanup can be completed with minimal interruption to the user.

  • Cloud and tenant troubleshooting

Mailbox, Teams, SharePoint, licensing and sign-in issues are diagnosed directly in Microsoft 365 and Entra ID admin tools.

  • Remote worker connectivity

Diagnosis of home Wi-Fi symptoms, VPN clients, remote desktop connections and docking station problems as far as remote access allows.

  • Secure access controls

Remote tooling is limited to authorized technicians, sessions are tied to tickets, and unmanaged screen-sharing apps are removed where found.

  • Clear handoff when remote isn’t enough

If the cause is physical, we arrange on-site help within the confirmed service area, a courier swap, or vendor warranty service.

What remote support can and cannot do

Your proposal sets the covered users and devices. These are the typical boundaries.

Typically included

  • Remote sessions on covered Windows and macOS computers during agreed hours
  • Microsoft 365, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive and SharePoint troubleshooting
  • Software installation and updates on covered devices
  • Printer and peripheral driver issues that can be fixed in software
  • VPN and remote desktop client troubleshooting
  • Mobile device setup guidance for company email and apps
  • Session notes recorded against the ticket

Needs on-site help or separate scope

  • Hardware repair, cabling and physical equipment replacement
  • Devices that will not power on or cannot reach the internet
  • Personal devices and home networks beyond basic guidance, unless scoped
  • Coverage outside agreed business hours unless written into your plan
  • Projects such as migrations or new system deployments

Tools and platforms behind remote support

We use managed, auditable tooling rather than consumer screen-sharing apps. Specific tools are confirmed during onboarding.

  • Managed remote access and remote monitoring agents on covered devices
  • Microsoft 365 admin centres and Exchange Online PowerShell
  • Microsoft Entra ID for sign-in, MFA and conditional access troubleshooting
  • Microsoft Intune for remote app deployment and device actions
  • Windows 10 and 11, macOS, iOS and Android business devices
  • VPN clients, Remote Desktop and Azure Virtual Desktop connections
  • Service desk ticketing that links each session to a request

Who remote support works best for

  • Hybrid and remote teams

Organizations whose staff work from home or travel and need help wherever they sign in.

  • Businesses outside our on-site areas

Canadian organizations beyond Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley and Calgary that run mostly on Microsoft 365 and laptops.

  • Cloud-first offices

Teams with few servers or on-premises systems, where nearly every issue lives in software or the cloud.

Why remote-first support helps

  • Issues are worked as soon as a technician is available, with no travel delay
  • Remote staff and branch offices receive the same quality of help
  • Technicians see the actual error instead of relying on descriptions
  • Remote access is controlled, logged and limited to authorized people
  • On-site visits are reserved for work that genuinely needs them
  • Lower cost per issue than dispatching for every problem

How a remote support request works

  1. Request logged

The user contacts the help desk and a ticket records the device, symptom and business impact.

  2. Permission and connection

A technician confirms who they are speaking with and starts a secure session, with the user’s consent for attended sessions.

  3. Diagnose and fix

The technician investigates the device and related cloud services, explains what they are changing, and applies the fix.

  4. Confirm with the user

The user checks the result before the session ends, and notes are added to the ticket.

  5. Escalate if physical

If the cause is hardware or cabling, the ticket moves to on-site support, a device swap or warranty service.

Frequently asked questions

Is remote access to our computers safe?

We use managed remote tools limited to authorized technicians, tie sessions to tickets, and confirm identity before attended sessions. Unmanaged screen-sharing apps are removed where we find them.

Can you support staff outside BC and Alberta?

Yes. Remote support is available across Canada wherever the device has a working internet connection. On-site visits are limited to confirmed addresses in Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley and Calgary.

What if the problem can’t be fixed remotely?

We escalate to on-site support where your address is in the confirmed service area, or arrange a device swap, courier or vendor warranty repair.

Will a technician connect without me knowing?

Attended sessions start only with the user’s permission. Background maintenance on managed devices follows the rules agreed in your scope and is recorded.

How is remote support priced?

It is included in per-user support plans. The calculator shows proposed figures and your written quotation confirms the final price.
